A legacy of faith

In 1921, our great-grandparents, George and Jessie Walker, travelled to China as Salvation Army officers to spread the gospel. Their ministry to refugees saw 12,000 families return home with a Bible in their possession.

In 1937, full-scale war broke out and George was arrested and persecuted for spreading the Gospel. By 1941, with the Second World War raging, George and Jessie were transferred to Shanghai — home to the world's largest prison, holding up to 8,000 prisoners. Those prisoners became a special ministry for George, who frequently prayed with condemned men before their execution.

Their son carried the same calling forward, making seven return visits to China in search of persecuted friends from his childhood — his final visit in 2001.

Generations later, that legacy continues in digital form.
